MILNE, David

Dear Helen, This has been a difficult winter for you, what with your mother’s passing away so recently and now losing David so soon afterwards. Please accept my heartfelt condolences. I hope this is some comfort to you coming as it does from an old friend. Old friends are best at times like this. Love, Peter.

McMAHON O.P., Sr. Maeve

This is a huge loss not only too Sr. Maeve family but her many past students. She was so much more than an educator she was a light that shined and illuminated the lives of so many. I had the pleasure of having her light shine on me and to this day I will remember many of her encouraging conversations we had and her words still resonate with me and how I raise my children. Rest peacefully, job well done Sr. Maeve!

Mary, I was so sorry to hear from Ann Ormonde of Gerry’s death. He was always so nice to meet. One came away feeling jollier. Jonathan Philbin Bowman once wrote about people he called Daymakers and I think Gerry belonged in that category. My deepest sympathy to you and your family. Mary McCarthy

GALLAGHER, Fr. Raphael

David, my son Michael and I are so sad to learn of Raphael’s death. David and I had lunch with him at the Hugh Lane Gallery while in Dublin last November. Raphe has been a dear friend for over fifty years, in Dublin and Rome and in far away Montreal. We all appreciated his sense of delight in life and quiet wisdom. We were always impressed by his love of and enjoyment of his family and their holidays together. A good man. I felt privileged to have had him in my life. Eithne Coyle Taylor
