CODY (NÉE PHELAN) - Dr Ellen, Tullaniskey, Mullingar, Co Westmeath, peacefully 5th January 2026 in her 99th year in the tender care of the staff at Newbrook Nursing Home. Dearly beloved wife of the late Dr Edward and much loved mother of Matthew, Mary and Jane. Deeply regretted by their spouses Diana, Peter and Walter, treasured grandchildren Roisín, Edward, Neil, Caitriona, Stephen and Louise and nine great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her sister Peggy; Ellen will be sadly missed by her brother Bill, his wife Cel, sisters Breda and Hendy, cousins, nieces, nephews, wonderful carers and dear friends.

Reposing at Gilsenan’s Funeral Home Mullingar on Thursday from 9.30 am to 10.30 am followed by Funeral Mass in the Cathedral of Christ the King at 11 am. Burial afterwards to Cappagh Cemetery, Inistioge, Co Kilkenny at approx 2.30 pm. House private please. Donations in lieu of flowers to St Vincent de Paul.

HOLMES - (née O'Connor), (Leenane, Co. Galway), who passed away peacefully at St. Anne’s Community Nursing unit, Clifden, on Sunday 4th January 2026. she leaves her beloved husband John, much loved children Eoin, Patrick, Conor, Anne, and Ruth, sons and daughters-in-law Niamh, Maria, Stephanie, Ben, and Ruairidh, grandchildren Gráinne, Nora, Milo, Hannah, Arlo, Jack, Connie, Ruth, Asher and Zac, sister-in-law, Anne O’Connor and nieces and nephew Eilish, Mary, Claire, and John Jnr.. John and all the family will miss Bridget terribly. The family wish to extend a special thanks to the team at St Anne’s who cared so wonderfully for her over the last two and a half years. May She Rest In Peace.

Bridget will rest in repose Leenane Community Hall (H91 P0EK) on Tuesday (Jan. 6th ) from 5:00pm, concluding at 7:00pm. On Wednesday 7th January, friends are invited to join the family at 12.00pm for a thoughtful wintry walk from the bridge in Leenane village, to the Leenane New Cemetery where she will be buried at 12.30. CONNOLLY - The death has occurred of Dr. Paul Connolly, Countryside Acres, Kinvara, Co. Galway, and Chapelizod Dublin (formerly CEO, Marine Institute, Rinnville, Oranmore).

Peacefully at Galway Hospice at 11 p.m. on the 4th of January 2026, following an illness bravely borne.

Sadly missed by his wife Maria, his children Mairead, Siobhan and Brendan and Mairead’s partner Ollie.

SCOTT - (née Burke), Anne (Leixlip, Co. Kildare and formerly of Iona Villas, Glasnevin, Dublin 9) - January 4th, 2025 (peacefully) at home surrounded by her loving family. Beloved wife of Robert (Simon) and much-loved and cherished mother of Gillian, Sinéad, Jenny, Philippa, Robert, Lindsay, Andrew and Stephen and sister of the late Donal.
