MURPHY, Gerard

Gerry, apart from being a staunch man of Leinster Cricket, was a great debater when a pupil at Belvedere, whose opinions, robustly expressed, eschewed nonsense for common sense. I never saw him after leaving school, but was delighted to see the tribute paid to him by Leinster Cricket’s Philip Smith online. He deserved nothing less. I sent in a short article to The Irish Times Sports pages on Gerry, but they don’t seem to have space for it. As a journalist, I’d love to pen an article on Gerry for an Irish Cricketing journal. Please contact me at the addresses below. Tel: 087-990-3906. RIP, Gerry, your old OB friend Peter Thompson, Auditor, Rhetoric Debating Society, Belvedere College, 1971-‘72. Hail and Farewell… .

So sorry Russ and Gayle on your mother's death. We had so much fun at our ladies lunches, going back to the early seventies. I am sorry I won't be able to come to the service as I am just out of hospital. She was a lovely lady. With very best wishes to you all Carol.

SUTTLE, Randal

Randal and I met in Dublin in 1974 when he was at Bolton St and I shared a house with his friend Brian Grubb. We became good friends and he spent a great deal of time with us at "Mt Alien" in Dolphin's Barn. He met and befriended my folks and he visited them in the States many times. He loved music and his sense of humor was always a delight - I still have an anciet cassette tape of him singing Lord Franklin and Dollymount Strand recorded in our Dublin kitchen one raucous autumn evening in 1974, a background chorus of several of the Bolton Street lads who hung out in that house often of an evening (Ross Galbraith, Brian Grubb, Fiacc O'Brolchain, Peadar Walsh, John McCarthy srl.) Rest in peace, old friend. xo -your pal Annie.

Found this photo of my great-aunt and her school friends. The caption on the back says that the third girl from the left on the back row is Carmel O'Gorman. Photo taken in Abbeyleix. I think that the girls would all have been born in about 1935/1936.
