Great Gentleman

My wife and I stayed at Hollywell in Sept. 2006 prior to starting our holiday on the Shannon - Tom's quiet hospitality and knowledge of the river left a deep impression on two jet-lagged Americans.

Our condolences to Rosaleen and the family. Ireland is the poorer for his passing.

Brian and Jill Mourning

It was a shock to here of Mr. Maher/ Tom's death

I have fond memories of the times up in Lough Key when the gangs of kids from the families (Maher's, Lynch's, Luzziz's, etc...) used to meetup each summer. Tom used to be very generous & bring us out for spins in his speed boat. I have to say I always preferred that end of the Shannon for such reasons. I also remember one Summer when we were up there that Tom kindly brought us in his car along the soon to be opened (at the time) Ballymore/ Ballyconnell canal. I think this has inspired me to get involved in another canal restoration project (which is ongoing for the last 9 years), the Boyne Navigation Canal restoration project (boyne.iwai.ie).

Each summer my parents made it a must to drop into the Maher's house to catch up on old times/ to find out what had happened over the previous year. It has been a couple of years since I meet him but I always found him to be a generous person & always full of cheer.

He will be sadily missed by his family & his wider friends. He gave great service to the Inland Waterway Association of Ireland.

Ar Dheis dé go raibh anam,

Fiachra de Róiste.

We will all miss you Tom

We, your Adelaide cousins, Elissa in Canada and Annie in Darwin, were so sad to hear of Tom's passing. A wonderfully bright spirit, who made us welcome in the Bush on our honeymoon, and renewed that hospitality recently by going next door to bring back a Guinness.

Rosaleen, Tom D Connor Ronan and Clare you are in our thoughts. We will miss him terribly and wasn't he a great fellow! Lyn and Peter
