Remembering a huge talent...
I remember the day Seamus arrived in primary school in Bishopstown, I sat next to him for his first year and was in his class through to finishing secondary. It was hard for us to get our heads around the scale of Seamus' talent but the occasional reminder of it, at a concert or on TV, was enough to leave an indelible imprint on my (and many others') education- one that didn't involve books or homework but pointed at life's more eternal possibilities. Not seen Seamus for a long time but have always thought of him and what he opened up for us down the years. Damian Kearney

Memories of Séamus

Incredibly moving to hear a recording at Séamus's funeral today from 1986 of Séamus performing a Tchaikovsky violin concerto with the RTE Orchestra as he got ready to represent Ireland in Europe, his genius talent shining through for all to hear . The tears and standing ovation after the recording was played is testament to how much Séamus was and is still loved and admired, and the legacy he leaves behind. Not many people get into Juilliard but Séamus did. Séamus continually blew me away by the sheer level of his skill as a classical musician and he was gracious enough to share some of those pieces he played with me so I could learn them too on the harp, and try and sneak the classical repertoire into our background music in Bunratty! A beautiful send off for such a beautiful soul, both inside and out. Rest in Peace Séamus, I loved and respected you so dearly, serenade the stars with your God-given talent x Sinéad Ryan
