HEANY - (Luí na Gréine, Baile an tSagairt, An Spidéal) (May 29, 2023 God called Roy Home) On this Roy’s First Anniversary, I Roy’s wife Mairéad wish to express my most sincere gratitude to all those who sympathised with me in my sad bereavement. I offer my heartfelt thanks to dear Roy’s loyal friends who worked with him in Wesley College. I wish to name three special friends; Ernest Bryon, Dick O’Connor and his life- long friend Diarmaid O’Crualaoich, also my sincere thanks to Roy’s former students from Wesley College. I would like to thank to all who travelled to attend Roy’s funeral. I wish to extend a very special thanks to our good neighbours from Baile an tSagairt who travelled the long distance to attend Roy’s funeral and to those neighbours who could not attend but sent Mass cards and messages of sympathy. My sincere thanks also to those good friends from outside the village who sent Mass cards and messages of sympathy and to all those who posted condolence messages online – I am deeply grateful to you all. I wish to extend a very special, sincere gratitude to dear Roy’s cousins in Ballinalee, Creenagh and Longford and their families. Very special and sincere thanks to Martin and Ann who were such a support to me. Martin who contacted so many to organise the necessary arrangements in Longford. I am forever grateful to him and his wife Ann for their support, hospitality and comfort afforded to me in their home where I stayed for some days after the funeral. This gave me so much comfort as they took me to the cemetery each day to be with Roy. I wish to thank most sincerely all the McGuinness family whose parents were lifelong friends of Roy’s. A very special thank you to Mary and John McGuinness who were always there for dear Roy and me.
My sincere thanks and profound gratitude to Fr. Sean McHugh, Fr. John Gerard Acton and Fr. John O’ Halloran who gave their blessing on many occasions to Roy and prayed with me as Roy received the Blessing of the Sick a week before he was called Home. Also to the kind Clergy who once again attended to pray for Roy on the evening of 29th May 2023 at Angelus time when my dearest Roy peacefully went to his eternal home. I wish to offer my sincere thanks to Reverend Simon Scott for the very dignified funeral service, for his prayers and words of comfort. I wish to thank the choir for the beautiful singing of the hymns along with the peaceful solemn church music accompanying the choir and for all the people in the church who joined in the singing – thank you most sincerely.
I wish to thank most sincerely Glennon’s funeral directors for their very professional care with all the arrangements, especially taking dear Roy to the funeral home from Galway and to his final resting place.
I wish to extend my very sincere thanks to all the Doctors, Nurses and Care Staff in St. Teresa’s Ward in Galway University Hospital for the excellent care and profound compassion they showed to dear Roy during his stay in UHG. They tended to Roy each day, each night - 24hours round the clock and were always so kind in making dear Roy comfortable at all times. I am not forgetting their kindness to me and I would like to include a special thanks to the Catering Staff also.
I wish to thank most sincerely the Nurses, Carers and all the Staff in St. Mary’s Nursing Home, and the good catering staff there also. Here too I wish to extend a very special thanks to Patricia who is a very special member of the Staff in St. Mary’s Nursing Home. I depended on her daily, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic and the latter years of Roy’s life – she was always there for me. I wish also to thank most sincerely Yvonne and Lorraine who travelled a long distance to attend Roy’s funeral.
I am deeply grateful to Roy’s G.P. Dr. Brian O’Flynn who tended to Roy each and every time he required his professional care and to Patricia and Emear who were always caring, kind and professional in their job. Also my sincere thanks to Sineád and Adrian Mullins and all the staff in Mullins pharmacy in Salthill for their support and help over the years. Very special and sincere thanks to their Mother who so kindly attended Roy’s funeral.
A special thank you also to Keri-Ann and Bernie in Anthony Ryan’s who always helped me with all the requirements I needed for dear Roy.
I wish to extend to my dearest sister Nancy my forever gratitude to her for always being there for me throughout my childhood, adolescence and when I got married; for her continuous caring kindness and love she extended to Roy and me right up to this day – thank you - beloved Nancy,
Last but by no means least, my deep and sincere gratitude to my dear nieces and nephews who provided such support and comfort to me during this sad and difficult time.
As it would be impossible to thank each person individually, the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass will be offered for all your intentions.
First Anniversary Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday May, 29, 2024 at 10am in Christ the King Church, Salthill Galway and at 10am in St. Enda’s Church, Spiddal, Galway.
First Anniversary Memorial Service will be held on Sunday June 2, 2024 in St. Pauls Church, Newtownforbes, Longford. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam
