Condolences from Joan FitzGerald in Rome

I wish I could have been In Ireland to attend Simon's funeral, and hope that Ruth passed my condolences on to Rory.

Three generations of friendship between our families made a strong bond. I have lovely memories of both Simon and Lavinia from visiting your family (you all boys and us all girls!) when we were children and came home from Rome for the summer. They both made a strong impression on me even as a child: that of Simon as a very gentle and amusing man and Lavinia as his war and, affectionate life's companion. Simon's passing, like Lavinia's, is our loss. Joan FG
