Fr Sean Dunne

Ordained in the Irish Republic in 1951, the Columbans sent Fr Dunne to the US during the height of the Cold War. He trained as a journalist in Milwaukee, and became Registrar of the College of Journalism in Denver and associate editor of a Catholic weekly newspaper. He then spent three and a half years studying photography at the University of Southern California and began working in various Hollywood studios, gaining skills in cinematography, script-writing and direction. His order put this experience to use when they posted him to East Asia where, assisting the UN and the US navy, he made a number of film-reports or the National Catholic Welfare Conference.

I am researching the area of international religious media history and would like to correspond with anyone who new of Fr Dunne in this capacity.

idspeaks@aol.com

I was named after him

I was named after Fr Sean Dunne, my middle name is Sean. My mother Norma Kirkman passed away earlier this year at the age of 80. I'm sorry to hear Father Sean is gone. But I read one of the last letters he wrote to my mother in 2011 and it was a joyful letter full of hope. God Bless. Stephen Sean Kirkman. sskirkman@gmail.com
