Remembering Eileen Moore Lennon

Norm and I have warm memories of Eileen and Paddy. Once upon a time a motley group of Americans descended upon Scotchgreen. There were eleven of us led by our patriarch, Doc. A gracious Eileen eagerly welcomed us into her home.

Please come in….would you like a cup of tea?

Over a decade of correspondence between my mother and Eileen had been read and reread before our visit. Upon meeting her I felt as though I too, had known her for years. And the letters? Newsy comments and updates of the Lennon clan….Granny, Mary, Teresa and Rita and Denis. With tidbits from Newry. She was like a bridge over the ocean---our connection with the cousins.

What a wonderful visit we had that afternoon! Joyful noise we made, the laughter and stories flowing freely. Tears spilled, smiles wide and Eileen right in the middle of it enjoying each moment.

Ever afterwards when I share a cup of tea with a friend, I think of Eileen.

Lauralee and Norm Jones

Gladwin, Michigan USA
