I'm going to miss Ninang Mary a lot. As my godmother she was a regular presence in my life and I valued all the visits we had together. I'm so grateful that I was able to see her last year. I'll always remember her. - Lara Maestro

From Lara Maestro

Ninang Mary was the coolest nun ever. She was always so much fun. She loved to window shop and chat, and she always seemed gently amused by my answers to her questions about my life. Our relationship spanned many countries - Philippines, London, Ireland... When I saw her last year I told her I'd visit her again soon. I was so sure I would get another chance to see her that when I forgot to get a picture together I thought "next time." I regret it very badly - you always think you'll have more time. This is a picture from 10 years ago in London. Thanks for all the memories Ninang Mary. You meant a lot to a lot of people (I hope you knew that) and I'm so glad to have had you in my life.

Farewell. Sr. Mary

Sr Mary was a true friend of the Filipino people. She was also my best friend, having worked with her in human rights, social justice and international solidarity. She was committed to working for the poor and for the political prisoners and their families during and after the Marcos dictatorship. Through her, we (my daughter, sister Lani & and I) came to know the other Columban sisters in the Philippines, in London and then in Wicklow. Sister Mary was well–loved. We will not forget her.- Erie Maestro, Canada
