WHELAN, Charles (late of Sutton, Dublin) (former Irish Ambassador to Spain, Algeria, Tunisia, Japan, Greece, Israel and the former USSR) – March 28, 2018. Having recently celebrated his 93rd year and in the exceptional care of the dedicated staff of St. Francis Hospice, Blanchardstown. Beloved husband of the late Monica, he will be sadly missed by his daughter Sara, his sons Fergus, Richard and Martin, his son-in-law Noel, his daughters-in-law Ann and Deirdre, his seven grandchildren Tara, Clare, Aran, Emmet, Oisín, Sorcha and Ultan, and other relatives, colleagues and friends. A celebration of his life will be held at Glasnevin Crematorium on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at 2.30 o’c. Family flowers only. Donations, in memory of Charles and Monica, may be made to the Irish Hospice Foundation, 32, Nassau St., Dublin 2.
