Time to Rest Gloria

I first met Gloria in 1974 as a new holiday part timer working under her wing in the general cosmetic dept of Switzers.I worked during the Easter/Christmas/Summer school holidays and loved it .She ruled a tight ship then and she influenced me to return to the Beauty industry after sitting my honours leaving cert exams.I worked in many depts on the Switzers floors after i returned to Switzers included cosmetics and studied to be a Beauty Therapist at night with Brronwyn Conroy/Grafton street.I was recruited by Gloria and personnel dept Switzers after many years in the beauty business to be The counter manager for her prize concession Estee Lauder.Shortly after that time she retired as far as i remember and her assistant buyer Anne became Switzers next buyer of the cosmetics.Gloria was awesome and terrifing, glamourous and inspiring and had a wonderous voice for such a petite Lady.I last saw her many years ago near the railway track crossing not too far from her home. She looked as i remembered ,as glamourous and coiffeured as she always was.I waived and she waived back as i drove in traffic by.

Farewell Gloria!.

Anne C Smyth O'Shea

Rest In Peace Gloria

You were a much respected colleague and a delightful presence in Switzer's, and enjoyed very much by everyone with whom you came in contact. You were one of the"originals" and amazingly knowledgeable about fragrances and cosmetics, and you were quick to spot a new star in the perfume firmament. Today’s designer ranges owe much to the drivers of the business and innovators of ideas for fragrances and packaging such as yourself . I will always remember being privileged to attend a dinner at The Russell with you and a very famous diva of the fragrances business, where you secured exclusivity for Switzer’s of the most famous of the modern perfumes. It was a joy to see you negotiate with all your skills and radiance . The famous diva had met her match and admired you for it ! Rest in Peace Gloria.
