McGURK - Professor John James Noel (Tourmakeady, Co Mayo). Native of Termonmaguirc (Carrickmore). Late of University of Ulster (Associate Professor, Ulster Scots Studies), University of Liverpool Institute of Irish Studies (Co-Founder), Liverpool Hope University (Head of History), Royal Historical Society (Elected Fellow, 1971). Peacefully August 9, 2023 at Friars Lodge Nursing Home, Ballinrobe, at 91 years of age. Predeceased by wife, Barbara, and youngest son, Matthew. Survived by sons Timothy and Patrick. Much loved and missed by family, friends and colleagues. Funeral Mass at 11.00am on tomorrow (Wednesday, August 16), in St Mary’s Church, Tourmakeady. Donations if desired, rather than flowers, to the Irish Red Cross Rescue Services.
