Mourned by her brother Roddy and half-brother David (Horan) and half-sister Rosemary (Holmes), sisters-in-law Birgitta and Cecile, brother-in-law Pat, stepmother Dorothy Horan, nieces and nephew Tara, Shelley and Rebecca Horan and Philip, Lucy and Rachel Holmes and grandniece Alicia. Penny was a lovely open hearted classmate with the most infectious bellowing laugh. I’m saddened to hear of her too early death. A lovely happy laugh at a trying time in my school life. RIP

<p>Pennie Simpson</p> I have only just discovered this obituary. I knew Pennie back in Drogheda Grammar school where she was a classmate and great friend of my sister Catherine Mendes, who passed away in 1996. Reading the comments Pennie obviously grew up and stayed the same lovely person she was in school. My belated sympathies to Roddy. My brother Al died in February this year, so have lost my last link to our school days there. Irene Schirmacher (née Mendes)
