HAMMOND Ivan B (Capt.) (Fortieth Anniversary November 29, 1972) - Both he and our mother Oonagh (Scannell) are remembered with deep affection by all the family; Ivan, Jacqueline, Siobhan, (Olga deceased), sons & daughter-in-laws, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ivan was a privately trained pilot who joined Aer Lingus as their second Capt. in 1937 and flew with the company for the next 31 years. He flew to Liverpool daily throughout WW2 and performed the inaugural flights post war to London, Rome, Lourdes, Frankfurt etc. He was also the second President of I.A.L.P.A. and a backbone in the Irish Aero Club. He met Oonagh while teaching her to fly in Kildonan and she subsequently became the fourth woman in Ireland to hold a flying licence. A Mass has been offered in Castleknock Parish for the happy repose of their souls.
