RYAN, Desmond P. (Born June 9, 1942 in Mullingar, Co. Westmeath, Ireland) - January 8th, 2012 at Arbor Hospice, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA, preceded in death by his father Dan Ryan, mother Vera Gillen Ryan and brother Vincent Ryan; he will be profoundly missed by his wife Sally of 39 years, son Brendan Ryan, daughters Michelle Gherardi, Kristen Wargelin, Kathy Allen, six grandchildren and many friends. He came to the University of Michigan in 1962 on a track scholarship and won the Big Ten Championship Mile in 1964. With a masters degree in communication from U of M he joined the teaching faculty at Huron High School in 1967. He coached cross-country running and sponsored the Huron Players Drama Club until retiring in 1997. He was inducted into the Huron HS Hall of Fame in 2002.
