BENSON, Dr. Charles John (Dublin and Kilkenny) - November 13, 2017, beloved husband of Gillie (née Ludlow), father of Ralph and Caroline, and grandfather of Louis; deeply regretted by his daughter-in-law Margaret, by Rosser, and by his sisters Pam, Miriam and Judy. Funeral Service in the Victorian Chapel, Mount Jerome, Harold's Cross, Dublin 6W, at 3pm on Monday November 20. Strictly no flowers please. Donations, if desired, to the Irish Heart Foundation, can be made at the Church.

<p>A fine scholar and a good friend</p> <p>I have known Charles since 1970-71. As a librarian he was a marvellous resource, always helpful and authoritative. As a friend he was loyal, attractive and fun to be with. He was instrumental in introducing me and my family to the west of Ireland and in particular to Lisnabrucka, Ballinafad, where we shared many years of happiness. I honour his memory, deeply regret his premature loss, and offer sincere condolences to Gillie, his sisters and his children.</p> <p>Richard Pine</p>

<p>Condolences</p> <p>I worked with Charles in Trinity for many years. He was always helpful and kind and this continued even after I had left. He will be greatly missed.</p>
