WALL - Father John S. Fr. John died in the dedicated care of Sr. Bernadette, Sr Thérèse, David and staff of Our Lady’s Manor Dalkey on September 22, 2020 two days before his seventy-eight birthday. It is a year since that sad day and we, his sister and brothers; Marie, Michael, Vincent, Finbarr and Noel, brother-in-law and sisters- in-law and his twenty-two nieces and nephews would like to sincerely thank so many people for their kindness and loyalty to our beloved brother.

Thank you to his lifelong friends Monsignor Alex Stenson and Fr Dermod Mc Carty who officiated at John’s funeral. It was a beautiful and memorable celebration of Johns life. We would also like to express the family’s gratitude to Fr Liam Lacey who was an outstanding friend and support to John in his later years. Thank you also to Fr Liam Belton of Ballinteer Parish who kindly facilitated us by allowing us have Johns funeral Mass in St. John the Evangelist Ballinteer particularity during the pandemic. Thank you to the Archbishop’s representative Fr. Paddy Boyle whose pastoral concern for John was deeply appreciated by the family. We deeply acknowledge the wonderful support and encouragement John received from Fr. Joe Coyne and many of his priest friends and colleagues who ministered with John in his various appointments. Thank you to Dr. Stephen Matthews of Enniskerry whose kindness to John was very much appreciated. We would like to express our deep gratitude to so many who looked after John especially in his last years. Sr. Kate, Maureen, Derek, Michelle and Mary O deserve special mention along with his good friends Redmond, Pat, Kevin, his friends from Drimnagh and the M circle. We are especially grateful to Derek who continues John’s legacy through Localise (Peace Corps) the charity John himself founded in 1972 in Ballyfermot Parish.

We are humbled and greatly comforted by the messages of condolence, Mass Cards, letters, phone calls and acts of kindness received during those exceptionally difficult and sad days. We thank everyone who joined us online and all of those who would have loved to have been there for Johns funeral but simply could not come because of the pandemic.

We hugely appreciated the professionalism and compassion shown by Masseys Bros Blackrock to the family during this very difficult time. Masses have been offered for everyone’s intentions. In the future, when circumstances permit we will have a Mass to celebrate Johns life.

“Isn’t the love of Jesus

simply wonderful”.
