O'LEARY, Donal J, of Cork, Carrickfergus, Kaduna, Khartoum, Entebbe, Raipur and Bawtry. Extraordinary and beloved father of Brendan, Mary, Raymond, Lynda and Donal, father-in law of Christine, Anne and Lori, grandfather of Jo, Annie, Ryan, Donal, Sarah, Eleanor and Anna, and husband of the late Margaret (Margery) O'Leary (née O'Mahony). Born July 3, 1925 in Fermoy, son of Denis and Ann O'Leary, later of St. Brendan's, Magazine Road, Cork city, he died suddenly in Doncaster, England on October 18, 2011. He graduated with a BSc and MSc from University College Cork, served in the RAF in the war against Hitler, and subsequently worked for the Nigerian Federal Geological Service and for the United Nations Development Programme in Sudan, Uganda, and India. Player of GAA sports and rugby union, Arsenal fan, horse-racing enthusiast and bridge player of distinction, he was kind, brave, witty, intellectual and generous. He is deeply missed. His funeral service will be at the Rose Hill Crematorium, Cantley Lane, Cantley, Doncaster, DN4 6NE on November 1 at 13.40. Those wishing to honour Donal's memory are asked to consider donations to charities for the deaf, Cancer Research, or UNICEF.
