MINEHANE, Major General (retired) Michael F. (Leopardstown and formerly of Bantry) - July 11, 2013, (peacefully), at the Beacon Hospital. Beloved husband of Maura and father of Michéal, Ann, Cathal and Niamh. Sadly missed by his family, daughters-in-law, sons-in-law, grandchildren, brothers, sister, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, relatives and friends. Rest in Peace. Funeral Mass in the Church of the Ascension of the Lord, Balally, at 10 o'c today (Wednesday), followed by burial in Shanganagh Cemetery. Family flowers only please. Donations, if desired, to The Irish Hospice Foundation.

<p>Thanks for everything, Micheal.</p> <p>I was a private in the army (and not a very good one at that) in 1982 when I served with HQ 51 Inf Bn UNIFIL under the command of then Lt Col Michael F Minehane. He was such an inspiration to me that I all I ever wanted afterwards was to be like him. I never succeeded of course, but I have been since than, and am now, better than I ever could have been because I tried and because I knew him.
