O'DEA - Edward (Sonny)
(Clontarf, Dublin and formerly of Kildorrery, Co Cork)
(October 28, 1929 - August 28, 2023) -
On this, the first anniversary of Ned’s death, his wife, Bernie together with his children, Carol, Paula, Jim and Ed, his brothers John and Andrew, and his wider family would like to take this opportunity to thank most sincerely all of our friends, neighbours, Ned’s colleagues from An Garda Siochana, the members of The Garda Rowing Club, Royal Dublin Golf Club and Clontarf Rugby Club who sympathised with us on our sad loss and showed support to all of us in so many different ways. We wish to thank especially Fr Pat from St Gabriel’s Church in Clontarf, who celebrated the funeral Mass, assisted by Fr Dermot, for all his support and kindness. Thanks also to St Gabriel’s Church choir for giving him such a wonderful send off.
We would also like to thank all those who cared for Ned in the Mater Hospital, Clontarf Orthopaedic Hospital and latterly the wonderful and caring staff of Sybil Hill Nursing Home. Thanks also to Edenpark Medical for their care over the years and to his ‘personal physician’ Dr Mark.
Thank you to everyone who called to Paula’s house on the evening before the funeral to sympathise with us and to celebrate Ned’s long life and to the many people who attended the funeral Mass, especially those who travelled long distances to be with us. We are very grateful for all the beautiful letters and Mass cards and online messages. All your support over the past year has been a great source of comfort to all of us. Husband, Dad, Grandad, Great-Grandad, brother, friend and neighbour.
A full life, well lived. Much loved and missed by many.
Ned’s anniversary Mass will take place on September 15 at 10.30am in St Gabriel’s Church, Clontarf.
