Mermaid Facebook post

Another Mermaid stalwart, Barbara Brown, sets off on her last voyage. Barbara and her husband Phillip, built "Barbecca", no 143, in 5 months during the Spring of 1969 in a cramped garage alongside their house in Kilmacud. They subsequently sailed her from the National Yacht Club for almost 20 years. As an enthusiastic and uncomplaining crew Barbara could always be guaranteed to improve the dynamic of any company and was one of the most generous and engaging people I have had the good fortune to know. Her kindness after the death of my Dad, shorty after they launched Barbecca, and the encouragement from both Phillip and herself to continue sailing our venerable "Jan Marie" no 61 was a huge influence in nurturing what proved to become my life long love affair with Mermaids. My profound sympathies are with Phillip and their children at this very sad time.

Roger Bannon
