O'NEILL Louis (Sandymount, Dublin 4. Former CEO and Group Managing Director of the Irish Times) - October 31, 2014 (peacefully) after a long illness bravely borne at St. Vincent's Private Hospital. Beloved husband of the late Vera and loving father of Deirdre, Jean, Denise and Stephen. Sadly missed by his sister Kathleen (Hoban), sisters-in-law Carmel and Julie (Murphy) his grandchildren Lorna, Jessica, Rebecca, Gemma, Christina, Ryan, Molly, Aran and Lily, sons-in-law, daughter-in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends. Rest in Peace. Reposing at Carnegie's Funeral Home, 19 The Crescent, Monkstown tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon between 3.00pm and 6.00pm. Removal on Monday morning (November 3) to St. Mary's Star of the Sea Church, Sandymount arriving at 9.50am for 10.00am Funeral Mass, followed by burial in Redford Cemetery, Greystones.

On this The First Anniversary of our dear father Louis who with our late mother, Vera O'Neill is greatly missed, we his daughters Deirdre, Jean and Denise, his son Stephen, his sons-in-law Pat, Rory, John and his daughter-in-law Clare, his grandchildren, sister Kathleen, brother-in-law Michael Hoban, sisters-in-law Carmel Coates and Julie Murphy and his nieces and nephews wish to express our sincere thanks to all those who expressed sympathy and support upon his passing. In addition to being devoted to his family Louis enjoyed a long career in The Irish Times and continued his passion for work after his retirement. He was much respected in both his personal and professional life and is greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. We acknowledge with gratitude all who attended the Funeral Home and Mass. Grateful thanks also to President Michael D Higgins who was represented by his Aide-de-Camp Lt. Commander Patricia Butler. Sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at St. Vincent's Private Hospital, we especially thank Dr. Gerard Connaghan and nurse Caroline Dowling for their attentiveness and care to our father throughout his illness. Thanks also to his friends Jim Kirwan, Séamus McCague, Martin Coonan and Alice Nelson for their support and kindness to him throughout this time. We are grateful to Fr. Martin Murnaghan who celebrated the Funeral Mass and to Fr. John McDonagh and Fr. Liam Murtagh who concelebrated with him, also to Deirdre Seaver for her wonderful music throughout the Mass. Grateful thanks to Carnegie Funeral Directors for their kindness, professionalism and dedication. To all who sent Mass Cards, Letters, and Floral Tributes and to our friends and relations for their kindness and support to us at this time. We wish to thank the Royal St. George Yacht Club and in particular to Justin McKenna for his kind words at the funeral reception. Thanks to the directors and staff of The Irish Times both past and present for their attendance at the Funeral Mass and to Eoin McVey for the wonderful tribute to our father which appeared on the Obituary Page on Saturday, November 8 2014. Unfortunately it is not possible to thank everyone individually and we trust thatthis acknowledgement will be accepted as a token of our sincere gratitude to all of you. The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass will be offered for all of your intentions. The First Anniversary Mass for Louis will be celebrated in the Star of the Sea Church, Sandymount, on Sunday, November 8, 2015 at 12.00 noon.
