McBREARTY John (Rathfarnham) March 21, 2012 - John's wife Trish and all the family would like to extend our thanks to those who have offered sympathy and support in any way, on the loss of our gorgeous 'gentle giant', John. We would like to thank Fr. Tom Whelan for his words of wisdom and Fr. Brian Stark for concelebrating his Mass at Kimmage Manor. A special thanks to John's very good friend and former flat mate, TJ Quinn, whose floral arrangements adorned the altar so beautifully, Assumpta Quinn whose pure plaintive voice touched our souls, Greta McCarthy O'Brien whose beautiful poem portrayed John as 'Standing Strong like an Oak tree', and the 'Gardeners'( Class of '81) who have been part of John's life for over thirty years. Also a particular thanks to the 'Old friends' in Killybegs who have shared a lifelong bond with John and now have formed 'The Benny Club' in John's memory; to Patrick Breslin who described John so eloquently, bringing laughter and tears when he spoke on behalf of all those friends at John's Mass in Killybegs. A big thank you also to all John and Trishs' friends who have been brilliant at this very sad time. Finally, thanks to our neighbours and also to those who have worked with John for offering help, support and their stories of John. We will all miss John sharing the banter, the jokes, the mimicry and his wealth of knowledge. We, his family, will remember how his happy smile and big blue eyes lit up the room, his laughter and big voice filled the air, he has left a huge void in all our lives. We will love him forever as he loved us. May he rest in peace.À la prochaine!
