Condolence to family and friends of Pat O’Reilly of Avondale Park, Raheny

I was deeply saddened to hear of Pat’s death. Pat was my family's next-door neighbour in Avondale Park in Raheny for several years many decades ago. A warm, funny and extremely kind man, he was a great neighbour and a good friend to my family. A true Dubliner in spirit and in attitude, he was a fine storyteller and a wit. I vividly recall Pat reciting John D. Sheridan’s poem Joe’s No Saint, on many occasions, and as a boy, I admired his skill in holding his audience. His stories of his childhood and youth in Dublin were funny, colourful but never really nostalgic – he knew things are better now than in his youth. He was a truly lovely man, and he and Kathleen were an important part of my family’s life for a very long time. He will be missed greatly and our hearts go out to Kathleen.
