DOWNING - Maurice, Brigadier-General (Retired) (Terenure, Co. Dublin and Glengarriff, Co. Cork). (May 16, 1931 - November 22, 2020) - On the weekend of Maurice’s 90th birthday his children Margaret (Byrne), Maeve (Ryan), John, Maurice, Paul and Finbarr, and their families would like to thank everyone who sympathised with us on the passing of our much-loved father and grandfather. We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to all those who attended or viewed his funeral, wrote such beautiful letters, or sent messages of condolences to us. Thank you to Fr. Bob Kelly O.Carm., who celebrated Maurice's long and happy life so well during his funeral Mass. Thank you to the members of our extended family, many friends and neighbours, members of Terenure College RFC and members of the Irish Defence Forces Óglaigh na hÉireann who stood shoulder to shoulder with us on the day of Maurice’s funeral – your support was very much appreciated. Also, thanks to Fr. Bob and all the Carmelite community at Terenure College for their kindness, friendship and spiritual support to Maurice, our late mother Maeve and all our family over many years. We are deeply grateful to those who helped in any way during Maurice illness in recent years; A very special thanks to Ms. Eden Moneda and Ms. Luz Caison of Pioneer Homecare who provided great care and comfort to Maurice and Maeve at home in their final years. Please accept this Acknowledgement as a token of our deepest gratitude. The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass will be offered for your intentions.
