DEANE, Seamus (Originally of Derry, late of Dublin) May 12, 2021 (peacefully) in his 82nd year, surrounded by family while in the care of Beaumont Hospital following a short illness. Formerly of University College Dublin, University of Notre Dame and Field Day. Much loved and sadly missed by all his family: partner Emer, wife of many years Marion, sons, daughters and their partners Conor (Paola), Ciarán (Dara), Émer (David), Cormac (Norah) and Iseult (Dominic); and by his beloved grandchildren Lughán, Sinead, Patrick, Aifric, Aodamar, Oisín, Sadbh, Ciannait, Mobhi, Fiach and Anu. Dearly loved by his sisters Eilis (deceased), Una and Deirdre, brothers Liam, Eamonn and Gerard (deceased) and their families. Méala mór a bhás dá chairde i gcéin is i gcóngar. In accordance with government guidance a private funeral will take place in the Victorian Chapel at Mount Jerome Crematorium today (Monday) at 4.00 pm. and may be viewed on www.vimeo.com/event/153499 No flowers please. Seamus’s passing has been rightly mourned as an occasion of national grief. He was, among so much else, an inspiring and compassionat​e mentor. Deepest sympathy to his family and loved ones. Harry White

I met Seamus Deane first in 1978, on my 2nd or 3rd day in Ireland. He was a dark, wiry young man, and while he was explaining sth. to me, I was mesmerised by his pronunciatio​n: So this lingo was Irish, too... Dr Carla Roes, Germany
