SHANNON, Edward (Ned) (Galway City and formerly of Leighlin Bridge, Carlow) July 19, 2025; peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family after a long illness borne with courage, humour and fortitude. Eddie will be forever missed by his devoted wife of sixty-two years, Ailish, his daughters, Lourda and Mary, sons Geoffrey, Michael and Eamonn, daughters-in-law Caroline Fitzgerald and Caroline Knightly, sons-in-law Paul Cantwell and Liam O’Hara and by his adored grandchildren, Aisling, Caoimhe, Sadhbh, Lauren, Chloe, Colm, Naoise Bo, Richard and Joseph. Predeceased by his sisters Muriel and Sybil and brother Noel. Fondly remembered and missed by his brother Geoffrey and his wife Mary, sisters-in-law Deirdre and Hilda, brother-in-law Micheál, the extended Shannon and O’Flaherty families and by his many friends and neighbours. Special thanks to his GP Dr. Charlie Cox, the Community Nurses Martina and Olivia and the Palliative Care Team who looked after Eddie with great care and kindness. Reposing at the O’Flaherty Funeral Parlour, Munster Avenue (H91V1K8) today Monday, July 21 from 5.00 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. Requiem Mass will be celebrated for Eddie tomorrow (Tuesday), July 22, at 11 a.m. on arrival at Saint Joseph’s Church, Presentation Road. Following Mass he will be laid to rest in St. James' cemetery, Bushypark adjacent to the Church. ‘May there be a beautiful welcome in the home that you are going to.
