In sorrow

Dearest Dad,

I think that you would have been very pleased with your send-off yesterday, poignant words from your eldest son Charles on behalf of your children, exquisite music from the your grandson Harry and the Ranmoor Church Choir, Sheffield and an ending chosen by you Ode to Joy.

You lived a life of tragedy, adventure and solitude. You chose to look the other way at the injustice towards your family, leaving this abiding wounded heart and soul.

You no longer struggle with the omnipresence conflict of your later years.

May your soul rest in peace and may I, in time, forgive you.

In sorrow,

Diana, your ever loving daughter

and grandchildren James and Harry

A mentor

Jerry was my mentor when I joined FAO in 1987 and taught me everything about locusts and forecasting. I am proud to carry forward his work and expertise in locust forecasting for FAO since his retirement in 1993.
