Small Kindnesses

My sincere sympathy to Professor Browne's family. I remember him not only as an inspiring teacher when I was an undergraduate chemistry student in Belfield (1965-1969) but also a kind man interested in his students. Even lowly undergraduates. On several occasions after I had spent a late evening in the department's chemistry library (those were the days) he would stick his head around the door and offer me a lift home to Terenure on his way home thus saving me a long bus ride. Small kindnesses are not forgotten. Dr Edeline Byrne (Brisbane, Australia)

David
I very much regret that because of illness I cannot be at David's funeral. But I do want to acknowledge his many kindnesses to me and Maynooth Chemistry. I shall miss, too, his stories of life as an student in the post-war period in London and of his red MG TD! He will be missed greatly by all his friends. Martin Quinn.
