MORTELL James AV (Colonel retired) (Stamullen, Co. Meath and formerly of Charleville, Co. Cork) (November 13, 2018) - To mark the First Anniversary of Jim's death, his sons, David and Alan, their mother Jennifer and extended family would like to thank all who supported them over the past year. Many thanks to Fr. Robert McCabe, who celebrated a beautiful funeral mass with Fr. Joe Mullan as concelebrant and those from the Redemptorist Congregation. Thanks to his numerous friends, neighbours and former colleagues who expressed their sympathy, but more importantly their appreciation of the remarkable life and achievements of such an outstanding gentleman. Thanks to all who sent Mass cards and letters of sympathy and to the many people who attended the removal and funeral. In addition, the family would like to acknowledge the numerous officers, staff and retired members of the Irish Defence Forces who attended and marked the passing of their former colleague with such a dignified military ceremony. In particular, a very special thanks to the 27th Infantry Battalion, Aiken Barracks, Dundalk who provided the bearer party at the church and cemetery and to the piper and bugler who played at the graveside. Jim would have loved and appreciated it all. Jim lived a life that was truly unique in terms of achievement and fulfilment and he was a loyal friend to many more people than it is possible to acknowledge. Please accept this acknowledgement as an expression of heartfelt thanks and appreciation.
