WINKELMANN, Franz Carl Walter (Dr) LL.D., F.C.A., MA mod., P.C. (Glenageary, Co. Dublin), Former Treasurer of Trinity College, Franz died on August 15, 2010, very suddenly but peacefully in the wonderful care of Rose and her caring staff in Glengara Park Nursing Home. For six years Franz bore his illness with uncomplaining dignity and great courage. Franz was dearly loved husband of Carmel (née Aldritt), beloved father to Paul, Lucy and Adam. Devoted Opa to Curtis, Suzanna, Gillian and Chloe. Dear father-in-law of David, Roisin and Ciara. He will be greatly missed by Blanka, Karl and their families, by his sister-in-law Olive and his brothers-in-law Frank and Dona, his nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandniece and great-grandnephews. Gone to join his grandchildren Ailbhe and Shane in Heaven. Funeral Service today (Wednesday) in St Paul's Church, Silchester Road, Glenageary at 12 noon and afterwards to Dean's Grange Cemetery. No flowers please. Donations if desired to the R.N.L.I. House strictly private.

<p>Franz the Giant</p> <p><br />Carmel,</p> <p>My very deepest condolances on the death of Franz. Not alone was he a giant in size but in life also.</p> <p>In my younger days as an administrator in TCD, he became my mentor and later when I became a Director of Administrator, he was my friend, my supporter and always had encouraging words to say.</p> <p>He exuded calm and was a great team leader. I will remember him with great fondness.</p> <p>As I now work and live in Moldova with special needs children I will be unable to attend his funeral.</p> <p>Carmel, may you take some comfort from the many messages of support you will receive from his friends and admirers.</p> <p>With respect,</p> <p>Des</p> <p>Des O'Connell</p>
