HAUGHEY - Tom (Blackrock, Co. Dublin and formerly of Westport, Co. Mayo) - As we remember Tom every day and especially on the First Anniversary of his death, we wish to sincerely thank all those who sympathised with and supported us as we came to terms with his sudden passing. Tom was a dearly loved husband to Margaret, father to Niamh, Emer, Orla and Aoife, grandfather to Tom Óg and Aisling Gheal, father-in-law to Keith, Shane, Niall and Michael and beloved member of the extended Haughey and Madigan families. We extend our grateful thanks to the Neurology department in St. Vincent’s University Hospital, in particular Professor Christopher McGuigan, for their professionalism and kindness, and to the paramedics who first came to Tom’s aid on his last morning. Despite the Covid restrictions, we are immensely grateful that many of our relatives, friends, neighbours and Tom’s former colleagues were able to participate in Tom’s funeral in the Church of the Guardian Angels, Blackrock. It would be impossible to mention everyone, but we particularly remember the guard of honour from neighbours and the Newtownpark Tennis Club. We thank Fr Bill Fortune and Fr Tony Gaughan and all of those who participated in the Requiem Mass, inside and outside the church, online, and at Tom’s graveside in Deansgrange. A special thanks to Lucy Kelleher for her beautiful singing and to Liam Kelleher for delivering the eulogy, and to Toni Wall and her colleagues in Massey’s Funeral Directors who guided us with compassion and professionalism. In the weeks that followed, we were greatly comforted by the many thoughtful messages of sympathy, flowers, cards, letters, emails, Mass cards, phone calls and wonderful tributes and memories online from Tom’s friends, neighbours and colleagues. We were also so heartened by the response to our IMNDA fundraising efforts in his memory. Among his many gifts, Tom had a great gift for friendship. He made and retained deep friendships throughout his life and we know that he will forever be sadly missed. The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass will be offered for your intentions.
