CONNELL John (John O'Connell) (Artane) - On October 15, the day that would have marked his 80th birthday, John's wife, Bonnie, and his children, Seán, Paul, Mary, Ann, Morgan, Joan and Eithne wish to thank all those who sympathised with them on the loss of a much-loved husband, father and grandfather. We would firstly like to thank the nurses and the palliative care team in the Bon Secours Hospital in Glasnevin who looked after John with such tender, diligent care during the final weeks of his illness. We are profoundly grateful to you. Thank you to all of you who attended John's wake and his funeral Mass. We drew great comfort from your presence. We deeply appreciate the effort made by those who travelled long distances to be with us. Thank you to Fr. Ben Mulligan and Fr. James Sheeran for officiating at John's funeral Mass and a particular word of thanks to Fr. James for his kind words which captured perfectly the essence of John's gentle, gracious nature. Thank you to John's friends and colleagues in An Garda Síochána, for affording us the privilege of a Garda escort. To those who donated to The Irish Cancer Society, and those who sent Mass cards and letters of sympathy in the weeks following John's death, these gestures were a source of great consolation to us. We are deeply touched by the love and respect shown in so many ways for John. Mass will offered for your intentions.
