O'CONNELL - Pauline (née Dunn); February 5, 2021: Retired paediatrician (Coombe, NCH, and St Ultans) and educator (Pembroke School), past president UCD MGA. On the first anniversary of Pauline’s death at the age of 95, her children and partners, Paul and Karina, Penny and Brian, Michael and Rosemary, Kate and Dan, along with her 13 grandchildren, their partners, great-grandchildren and the extended family would like to express our deep appreciation to all those who sympathised with us on the passing of Pauline (AKA Nana) in the days and weeks after her death at the height of lockdown restrictions. In a long career and active social life that extended well after her formal retirement from Paediatrics she touched the lives of many people. We heard from so many over the past year and thank all of you for the letters, cards, flowers, emails and texts of condolence you sent and for your shared memories of Pauline. We thank the staff and management of Leeson Park NH and Dr Moe for their care of Pauline, Fr Donie O’Connor with Fr Joe Mullan and his parish team for a moving ceremony in the Church of St Thérèse Mount Merrion Church, which was attended by many more on line than the 10 of us inside, and Massey Brothers for their organisation. A special thanks is also due to the many friends and neighbours and family who braved the bitter cold outside both the church and her house to give a Pauline a last guard of honour. We thank everyone who kept in touch with her in her last years at Leeson Park NH, especially during the final difficult Covid year. She is especially missed by her surviving siblings Joy and Peter. We hope she is now linking up with her beloved husband, Dr Liam (Bill) O’Connell who pre-deceased her and her deceased siblings Fr Joe and Nancy Dunn. As it is difficult to thank everyone individually, please accept this acknowledgment of our thanks and the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass will be offered for your intentions as we inter her ashes today.
