Ó CORRÁIN ( Bishopscourt Lawn, Bishopstown, Cork and Kerry) October 25, 2017, peacefully at home, Donnchadh, (Emeritus Professor of Medieval History, U.C.C.), dearly loved husband of Fidelma (Maguire) and much loved father of Tiarnán, Saorla, Gormla and Aengus and loving grandfather of Tadhg and Oscar. Sadly missed by his loving wife and family, daughter-in-law Amy, brothers Humphrey, Patrick, Teddy, Seamus, Thomas and John, sisters Noreen and Paschaline, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives, colleagues and friends. House strictly private other than the reposing at his home today (Friday) from 3.00pm to 7.00pm followed by removal prayers to the Church of the Holy Spirit, Dennehy's Cross. Requiem Mass at 12.00 noon tomorrow (Saturday). Cremation will take place privately. No flowers please.Requiescat in pace

So sad to hear he has passed. The man who gave me confidence and saw my potential. The best lecturer ever. Only recently, after 30 years, his influence came to bear again as I applied for a masters in gaelic literature. Only for the magic he sparked, I would never have gone down this road. God bless

My father Jim Somers was a good friend of Donnchadh. Unfortunately Jim passed before him, in 2015. My father had immense respect and appreciation for Donnchadh and many evenings they met at the pub and had lively conversations about formative events in Irish history. Rest In Peace, Donnchadh.
