Can’t believe I’m just hearing of the passing of such a great teacher! Dr Kirkpatrick was an inspirational teacher and historian, a much loved and respected member of staff. He taught me history in my last two years at Alexandra- he inspired my love of history. Condolences to his family

A most inspiring man - the reason I adore history to this day. I still remember his Socratic-like classes and think of them often. Rest in Peace.

I only recently learned Dr Kirkpatrick had passed away, during a conversation about the teachers who had changed our lives. I loved his history class, while his chats about current affairs during my frequent detentions for bunking off sports made me realise there was a better time coming as a grown-up. I think about him still 25 years since leaving school and wish I'd had the chance to say thank you to him.
