CASSERLY - Bryan (First Anniversary) – May 9, 2020.

He had a huge heart.

He was so kind and generous.

He hated slow drivers and

slow golfers.

He was rubbish at DIY.

He loved Countdown and

Fifteen to One.

His party piece was reciting

The Darktown Poker Club (a song),

and we still remember his intonation

and inflection in every line.

He loved Old Western movies:

his favourite was True Grit

and knew it line by line.

He did not suffer fools gladly.

He hated the Red Tab newspapers

and all the soaps.

He did the cryptic crossword in his

head to make it more challenging.

He had an amazing memory.

He was fluent in Irish.

He was asked to be Captain of

3 golf clubs.

He hated to lose, and rarely did.

He was an amazing dancer and

loved all things jazz.

He had the neatest handwriting

of anyone we knew.

He had the coolest signature, ever!

He hated chicken but loved pork.

He took ages setting up a shot in golf

and gave every shot the same care

and dedication.

He was always first to buy a round.

He had a terrible temper, especially

driving which he did at full throttle.

He always made hand gestures

when ordering a beer or the bill

when we were abroad.

He rarely complained about anything.

He hummed the same few cords

when answering the front door.

He waited outside Sandycove

train station every day to collect

us after school.

He loved good comedy -

Morcombe and Wise et al.

His favourite was Tommy Cooper.

He dug the deepest holes in the

sand for us when we were

away at the beach.

He loved his crosswords and reading.

He made us enunciate every

word properly.

He thought Frank Sinatra was young

and flashy when he first heard him,

but Ole Blue Eyes quickly became his

favourite crooner.

He always arrived to the

airport 2 hours early.

He loved his Thursday night snooker

with the boys in the golf club.

He won the most amazing

hampers at Christmas in golf prizes.

He never had a mortgage.

He pretty much always wore

a suit and tie.

He always spilt or dropped some food

when he ate.

He had the best laugh.

He was many things to many people: son, brother, uncle, Dad, Poppa, friend, Captain and colleague. But all of the above made him Bryan Casserly. And there will never be another like him.
