HUNT, Mary Elizabeth died very peacefully on Saturday, February 1, aged sixty-four, surrounded by her loving family, in the tender care of the Galway Hospice. Youngest daughter of the late Gordon and Peggy Hunt, Bray. Mary is very sadly missed by her siblings, Marcus, Muriel Hunter and Peter; her sisters-in-law, Mary and Sandra; her nephews and nieces, Marcus, Jane, Shane and Simon, Angus Hunter, David, Ross and Laura; their spouses and partners; and eleven grand-nephews and grand-nieces. Mary's main careers were in the Sports Department of the Irish Times and as an Aid Worker for over twenty years in twenty countries with Goal and other NGO's. She had many friends in Galway, Dublin, Ireland and around the world who are saddened by her early death, especially Colette and Jacqui who gave her such unstinting support over her cancer journey. Mary's funeral has taken place privately at her request. May she Rest in Peace.

HUNT - Mary (Riasc na Ri, Galway, Bray and former NGO worker in many locations around the world). As we approach the First Anniversary of Mary’s death on February 1, last year, her brothers, Marcus and Peter, sister Muriel and the extended family would like to thank most sincerely all her friends, neighbours and former colleagues in the Irish Times, GOAL, CARE and other NGO’s for their sympathy and support for us at the time of our sad loss and Mary’s premature death. We appreciate very much the kind letters, cards and emails we received and thank all those who attended her funeral and Celebration of Life, many having travelled great distances to do so. The tributes from her former colleagues during the Celebration of Life opened her family’s eyes to the many wonderful friends she had and the amazing life she led caring for others in many inhospitable scenarios. A special thanks to the Oncology, Palliative Care Teams and Nurses in Galway University Hospital and to the staff of Galway Hospice for the care and attention they gave Mary, particularly during her final days. Our very special thanks are due to Mary’s great friends, Colette and Jacqui, who provided huge support over the course of her cancer journey. As it is impossible to thank everyone individually please accept this Acknowledgment as a token of our sincere gratitude and appreciation.

Mary was a wonderful colleague in Rwanda in 1994 and in Tanzania in 1995. Over the years since then, I had often thought of her. Though our paths hadn't crossed since, she will remain in my mind just about 38 years old!
