O'BEIRNE - Dermot, late of Blackrock, Co. Dublin (First Anniversary)

On March 16, 2020, Dermot left us (due to his illness which he bore with great spirit, determination, courage and positivity), and is so sorely missed and deeply mourned by Irene, Rachel and Amarie. Dermot is irreplaceable and his absence is an immense void in Irene’s, Rachel’s and Amarie’s lives. Dermot was Irene’s best friend for 38 years and has left behind, as his legacy, his great strength so Irene, Rachel and Amarie can carry on with fortitude and in the knowledge they were so fortunate to have had so much of Dermot’s time, a time that was so sadly cut short.

Philip, Dermot’s son-in-law, has lost a great friend and mentor. Dermot’s brother David and sister Eleanor have lost a wonderful brother, friend and father figure. David’s wife Deirdre has lost a great brother in law and a truly loyal friend. Thank you to Fr Joe for making Dermot’s funeral mass so personal and uplifting and to Simon Morgan for his wonderful singing at Dermot’s mass. Irene, Rachel and Amarie will always appreciate the kindness, thoughtfulness and ongoing support of all their extended family, relatives and friends during this past year, for their expressions of sympathy, for their love and kindness and for all the mass cards, letters, flowers, plants and other gifts received.

Irene is eternally grateful to her fabulous friends and neighbours who paid tribute to Dermot in lining our Avenue on the morning of his funeral to bid him farewell to St Teresa’s Church in Mount Merrion and onward to Mount Jerome Cemetery. Thank you very much to Dr. Peter Staunton, Dermot’s good friend and GP, to Prof. Ray McDermott and Dr. Donal McGuire of St Vincent’s Private Hospital for ensuring Dermot was always informed, cared for and supported and to the Nurses in both the Oncology Day Care Unit and in St. Vincent’s Private Hospital for caring for Dermot with such kindness and compassion. To those who donated and contributed to Cancer Trials Ireland, Irene, Rachel and Amarie are truly grateful. A special word of thanks to Dermot’s former work colleagues, members of Castle Golf Club and Fitzwilliam Lawn Tennis Club and his ‘Bridge Crew’. To Fanagans Funeral Directors, thank you for your support and professionalism. To everyone who helped in any way, your contributions are very much appreciated by Irene, Rachel and Amarie. Irene, Rachel and Amarie are looking to the post Covid-19 future, when, as a family, they will be able to celebrate, with extended family members and all Dermot’s many friends, Dermot’s most wonderful, courageous and unselfish life.
