FURLONG Lt Col (retired) Tom, Bray, Co. Wicklow (died September 24, 2008) - To mark the First Anniversary of Tom's death, his nearest family members, his nephews and nieces, Dolores, May, Noel, Patrick and Sean wish to thank all his many friends, neighbours and former colleagues who expressed their sympathy, but more importantly their appreciation of the remarkable life and achievements of such an outstanding gentleman. A special 'thank you' to all who sent Mass cards, letters of sympathy, floral tributes and donations to the suggested charity and to the many people who attended the removal and funeral, many of whom travelled long distances; especially to Fr. George Begley for officiating at the ceremonies. In particular our thanks are due to Uachtarán na hÉireann, Mary McAleese, who was represented at the funeral Mass, to the Chief of Staff and to the very numerous officers, staff and retired members of the Irish Army who attended and marked the passing of their former colleague with such a dignified military ceremony. Our thanks also to Tom's former colleagues in the legal profession, notably in the Bar of Ireland. Also to the numerous fellow members of Dolphin RFC and Greystones RFC and the rugby community in general who were in attendance and who sent messages and tributes. Our thanks to the medical staff at Beacon Hospital, who cared for Tom in his final days. Tom lived a life that was truly unique in terms of achievement and fulfilment and he was a loyal friend of many more people than it is possible to acknowledge. The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass will be offered for all who have shared in our loss.
