A really great teacher

It was with the greatest regret that I read of the death of Dr Kaim Caudle recently. I was very fortunate to have been a student of his at the School of Public Administration in Dublin in 1964/65. I learned many things in his classes not least the need for vigourously questioning assumptions underlying all matters relating to administration.

I later joined the Irish diplomatic service in which I worked until last year. The lessons I learned from him stood me in good stead throughout my career.

I wish to extend my sincerest condolences to his wife and family at their sad loss.

Conor Murphy

cfxm13@ hotmail.com

Sincere sympathies from the Lamb family in Ireland

I don't know if you remember us from Malahide, but I wish to convey the sympathies of our family to yours, on the death of Peter.

I have many memories of times spent together when you were in Malahide, and other shorter stays in Ireland. My last memory of Peter was meeting him while I was a student in Trinity, and he was over as a visiting lecturer. He used to insist on calling me Caroline, in memory of the notorious Lady Caroline Lamb!

My parents are both very elderly now. My mother, Helen, is 93, while Keith, my father, is nearly 91. My mother is in the middle stages of alzheimer's, while my father has Parkinson's and has just been diagnosed with dementia. I came down from Donegal, where I had been living and teaching music, to be their full-time carer, 15 months ago. They are now in Offaly, in the centre of Ireland, in my father's family home, having left Malahide nearly 30 years ago.

I would love to hear news of how Patricia is. It must be really hard for her to be without Peter after such a long marriage. Of course I would love to hear also how you all are - Katy, Robert and James, and what you've been doing since we last met so many years ago. My e mail addresss is: eleanormlamb@gmail. com", and the house address is Woodfield, Clara, Co. Offaly. Phone: 00 353 5793 31161; mobile; 00353 89 4185445.

Once more, sincere sympathies to Patricia and all of you,

Eleanor
