Sister Gonzaga

Just discovering that Sr. Gonzaga left this world in 2012. What a wonderful impact she had on our world. All the young girls she inspired and encouraged to be their best. I was with her at Clarendon Street where I did my Leaving Cert. in 1967. She made each of us feel like we were unique and special. Loved her a lot. Through all of us she has had a widespread influence all over the world. Rest in Peace and Thank you for your dedication , care and support to all YOUR GIRLS. Isobel Peters (Haddow)

Sister Gonzaga

I was genuinely sad to hear this. I knew Sister Gonzaga in Holy Faith Clarendon Street and later the Coombe. As I look back from the current perspective she was really quite remarkable for her time. I also know that whenever any alumni chanced to meet - she was always the first we recalled and everyone had a favourable story. I last saw her 18 years ago and she was exactly as I knew her in school. Definitely this was a unique woman.

Anne Brennan (class of 1973)

Sr Gonzaga - Holy Faith

My condolences to the family and friends of Sr Gonzaga and the Holy Faith Sisters. I first met her in 1969 when I was a pupil in Holy Faith Clarendon St and then in Holy Faith, The Coombe where Sr Gonzaga was Headmistress. I had the pleasure of meeting her again 2 years ago and 35 years later was able to apologise for some of my misdeeds, which she remembered and laughed at. Good night Sister and Rest in Peace.

Sr. Zongaza - Death of a Great Educator

It was with deep sadness and sorrow that I heard of the death of Sr. Zongaza this afternoon. May she rest in peace. I was a pupil first in the Holy Faith Clarendon Street in 1969. I then transferred to the Holy Faith the Coombe in 1971 until 1973 when I sat my Leaving Certificate. She was so dedicated and committed to all her students. Giving of her time way beyond the call of duty. I was so pleased to have met with her a couple of times over the last couple of years and spoke to her on the phone only last month. She was still so encouraging and such a great inspiration for women. I will miss her greatly and it was such a privilege to have known her. Thank you Sr. Zongaza for all you did for me.

Noreen Connolly O'Prey (nee Clarke) 1969-1973

Noreen Connolly

The passing of a truly great woman

I want to extend my sympathies to the Sisters of the Holy Faith Convent and to the family of Sr. Gonzaga. I was a pupil in the Holy Faith in the Coombe Secondary school from 1974 to 1978 while Sr. Gonzaga was Principal there. She was hugely respected and admired by all the girls, parents and teachers, not only for her building of the 'new' school but also for her extraordinary leadership skills in leading us all to be the best we could possibly be and pushing 'her' girls in subject areas that were not strongly promoted in girls schools and that helped many of them to be successful in many varied careers. She had a mighty roar when you stepped out of line, but a gentleness and compassion that was apparent to all. In modern Ireland, she could have been a successful woman in Business or Politics, but she chose the religous life and the world of education to make her mark and she did that in a very caring and positive way. She will be fondly remembered by myself, my sister, mother and the many school friends I am still very much in contact with, one of whom remarked "it is the end of an era - what a woman." May she rest in Peace> Anne Feeney (Jamaica)
