Thinking of you all

Dearest Fionnula, Matt, Turk, Mary, Julie, Kalina and all the family.... Thinking of you all especially today... Garrett will always be for me an amazing influence.. but above all he always had time for everyone, caring, loving... self deprecating... his heart was as large as life... and in so many ways he helped so many of us through his own truth. With all my love, to you all on this saddest of days... Trisha

For Betty too who will also miss Garrett immensely...

I was a young child when I first met Garett, yet he always made a point of making me just as welcome as any adult in the room. A great wit, and truly important presence in my family's life. I'm forever grateful for him. -Mairéad Gaffney

To Fionnula and family and loved ones of Garrett
Dear Fionnula, I share a devastating loss of one of Ireland's treasures,a giant in the recovery field and my own personal Eskimo. Garrett took me to my first meeting 28 years ago and I got sober from that first meeting. He continued to enrich my sobriety as well as countless others. I am so blessed by his presence in my life. what an generous soul who will be sorely missed by all who knew him and loved him. Pat Tierney

Missing Garrett

Heartfelt sympathies to Fionnula and all the family. What an extraordinary man Garrett was (it’s so painful to use the past tense) – absolutely a force of nature. I am grateful to have had him as a friend, and I will remember him as one of the smartest, funniest, most inspiring and generous individuals I have ever known. His impact on my life will never be forgotten. With love to all of you, Áine O’Healy

I can think of no one I've met who has done more to help people in recovery. A wit, a kind man and always a laugh to be around. My deepest condolences. -Lola Kelly

To Garrett's Family With Love

Dear Fionnula, Matt, Turk, Mary-Lee, Julie, Mary, Kalina, Ryan, Tom, Finnian, Serena, Clayton, Aidan, and Olivia. My broken heart goes out to all of you who know best this funny, wicked smart, gracious and generous man. I am glad he died peacefully at home in Annacurragh. Is féidir leat bás in Éirinn. Garrett showed me the path to serenity, courage, and wisdom. He served as my first sponsor and was the “other human being” to whom I gave my first Fifth Step inventory and who taught me to burn it after he made several helpful, penetrating comments I will never forget. He never gave up on me and showered constant little gifts of friendship for which I will remain forever grateful. I miss him terribly, even though I feel his presence inside me powerfully at this very moment.

My love to you all. Ed Gaffney
