GEARTY Padraic (Church Street, Longford) - (October 5, 2011) - On this, the first anniversary of Padraic's death, we, his wife Brenda, daughters Deirdre, Naoimh and Liadhan together with our extended families, would like to express our warmest appreciation to all those who sympathised and supported us at the time of our sad loss. We are extremely grateful to the many people who called to our home, attended the reposing, funeral Mass and burial. We extend our most sincere thanks to everyone who travelled long distances, sent Mass cards, letters, sympathy cards, flowers and wrote kind obituaries. We thank most especially Monsignor Tim Hannigan, Bishop Colm O'Reilly, Bishop Richard Higgins and all the priests who concelebrated the funeral Mass. To those who organised and took part in the Guards of Honour, the musicians and soloist, the undertaker, as well as Padraic's colleagues and many friends, all of whom joined with us to gave him such an overwhelming farewell, we extend our deepest gratitude. As it is not possible for us to thank everyone individually, please accept this as a token of our appreciation. The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass has been offered for your intentions. Padraic's Anniversary Mass will be offered in St. Mel's College Chapel on 7th October 2012 at 8 am.

My sincere sympathies to Brenda and extended Gearty family

I have been blessed to call Padraic a friend since St Mel's College in the 1940s and early 1950s. We were teammates on the St Mel's team that won the Leinster championship and have kept in touch on and off ever since. An ardent lifetime sports enthusiast, particularly of Gaelic football, Padraic will be missed at Pearse Park, but most of all he will be missed by his lovely wife and family. My thoughts and prayers are with them.

Arnold J. Meagher, Alabama, USA

Longford has lost one of it's best.

I am deeply saddened to learn of Padraic's passing. I have had the privilege of knowing him since 1977. There are few people the world over that I have admired more.

I hope that all his great deeds done during his lifetime, to those less fortunate, are richly rewarded in Heaven.

The last time we met we spent many hours together and it was a most enjoyable afternoon and evening. My condolences to Brenda, his daughters and grandchildren, whom I know he cherished.

May he rest in eternal peace.

Peter Dennigan Cohasset MA. USA
