MARTIN, Irene Marie (Cabinteely). Died February 24, 2010 - On behalf of Janice, Philip, Lindsay and myself (Arthur) and our extended families, I wish to express our sincere appreciation to all those who sought to support and console us in this most sad and lonely time in our lives. We ask all of you; relatives, friends, golfers, bridge-players, sailors, neighbours, class and workmates, those who attended the removal, Mass and funeral, those of you who travelled from abroad and from afar in Ireland, sent flowers, made donations to charity and cancer research, those who called, sent letters, cards, Masses and otherwise expressed your love for Irene and support for us as a family, to accept this as an inadequate acknowledgment of your kindness and solidarity. We are buoyed up by the number and warmth of expressions of sympathy, support and encouragement. We would particularly thank Frs. Derek Smyth and Tom O'Keefe of Foxrock and Cabinteely Parishes, Fr. Martin Clarke who attended Irene at the hospital, her cousin, Fr. Owen Wynn and Fr. Robert Colclough all of whom helped us to cope with the trauma of Irene's death. So many prayed for her safe conduct to the Heaven she so richly merits; she saw her religion not simply as a matter of ritual but as a code for living. She lived (and died) faithful to that code. Above all, she would have loved the gentle, protective and understanding way in which all of you have sought to support her grieving family. We will make a donation on your behalf (in Irene's name) to the Irish Cancer Society, for Myeloma research.
