Sincere condolences to Deirdre and family and also to his sister. I have only discovered the death notice today. May he rest in peace.

Loss of respected colleague

Ben was much admired for his work in expanding and securing the UCD Department of Geology. He went on to take the helm of the Faculty of Science as Dean during a very difficult transition phase, involving the reorganisation of the Faculty department structure into schools and the complete revision of the undergraduate course structure and its delivery. Throughout this period Ben was always very supportive towards everybody and used great skill to keep the attention of staff focussed on the important task of nurturing students. He will be sadly missed by both colleagues and those who were fortunate to have been his students.
