SCANNELL (Ballincollig, Cork) - October 8, 2011 peacefully at Marymount Hospice. Des, beloved husband of Carol (née O'Leary) and the late Mary. Devoted father of Brendan and Clodagh, brother of John and the late Brian and Tim. Sadly missed by his loving wife, family, step-sons George, Alex and Marcus, daughter-in-law Joel, grandchildren Stacey and Siobhán, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and a wide circle of friends. Lying in repose at the Temple Hill funeral home of Jerh. O'Connor Ltd. Removal on this (Monday) evening at 6.30pm to St. Joseph's SMA Church, Blackrock Road. Requiem Mass at 12 noon tomorrow (Tuesday). Funeral afterwards to St. Finbarr's Cemetery. Family flowers only please. Donations if desired to Marymount Hospice. Requieseat in pace

<p>A sad day.</p> <p>I remember Des from 6th class in Christians in the early 1950s. I was a rube from Dripsey trying to fit in with the city boys. Besides being a great athlete he was a "straight shooter" and a fine friend.</p> <p>He will be missed.</p>
