Remembering Gordon

Gordon was a unique individual - a wonderful colleague - and a highly respected member of the research community. For a long long time I will consider things very much in the light of 'what would Gordon think of this ?' ..........

All the very best to Gwen, and family, at this difficult time,

Diarmuid Herlihy

Tribute from IDI colleagues

We were saddened to hear of the death after a short illness of our friend and colleague Gordon Foster, retired professor of Trinity College Dublin and director of the Informatics Development Institute.
We have much to be grateful for from his long life and work; a loyal friend, a much respected professor of Systems Studies, the designer of the world standard ISBN (International Standard Book Number), a sharp critic of institutional self-interest, an enthusiastic instigator of technology projects for third world development, and a perceptive analyst of our proposals. At a personal level we enjoyed many social events with Gwen, met his loving family and saw something of the quiet humanitarian which informed all his actions. We shall miss him.
