The Late Dr. Smyly

August 2013. Have just come across this announcement. Sounds like a fantastic and well lived life. I only met Dr Smyly once which was in 1946 when I was aged three! I met him at the house of Anastatia Medcalf in Sutton, Dublin. Also present were my parents and Hilda Hildrick and her daughter Mary - the Doctor's late wife. I would very much like to get in touch with daughter Judith. 00441213549677

Left by Harry Medcalf, cousin twice removed of Anastatia Medcalf.

Condolonces from Laois

I'm aged 42 and ever so slightly too young to remember Dr Smyly but my mother recently heard of his passing and was very upset.

He was our family GP for many years apparently and she speaks so highly of him still.

My condolences on behalf of our family.

Pat O'Connell, Courtwood, Ballybrittas, Co Laois.

Dr Smyly

Sincere condolences Judith on the loss of your father, and also to Peter, Grandchildren and Greatgrandchildren.

My sister Mary worked with your father for a time in Portarlington, and I as a child attended his practice. I have the fondest memories of him, a commanding man in stature, but with the warmest of smiles and the softest of voices.

I am now 46, but still recall him with the greatest of respect and admiration for a truely gifted Doctor with a very caring nature.

Though our recollections of those who go before us may cause tears at times, and no doubt great smiles - it is the sharing of these stories with one another that enables us to carry your beloved father Philip with us all forever.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
